Nope. Votes are now due by the DC LOCKING of the LAST REGULAR SEASON SIM (should be next Tuesday or Wednesday). This change is to keep the award based on in-season achievements (no post-season influence)

I feel like this was in reaction to some prior event.

The duration of voting may be stretched out to the DC lock of the 1st playoff sim instead. May open voting over the weekend instead as well.

My quick fire nominees:
Mavs Raptors Rockets Sonics Blazers
In my mind it is really the top 3 guys who have the best shot of taking this trophy. - Mavs got a great pick from their less than stellar rebuild year, but anyone who wants to throw around the "T" word forgets that he used the picks and cap space acquired from the previous year to build a better competitor this year. The pieces he has brought in have melded together well to create a very real threat at the MidWest crown and ultimately a good matchup or two from the NBA Finals. - The Raptors changed the most and brought in a lot of new faces to compete right now. Because of their almost reckless abandon for any long term future, they have cemented themselves in the East as the best shot at dethroning the Celtics as conference champ. Ultimately, their team is built to beat the Pistons and it was well constructed to do that. Look for this team to win the Central and make it uncomfortable for the odds on favorites, the Boston Celtics. - The Rockets are the classic top-seed gets a vote candidate. They have added a lot of new faces that keep them successful. They snuck in to a playoff spot last year largely based on Shaq's abilities, but this year they built around their raw talented center and have become a scary team to play.

So I want to throw out an early consideration for myself as GM of the year. My candidacy will only be legitimate by the end of the year. At this point in the season, I am one win better than last year. It may not seem like much, but My team at the beginning of the season is drastically different. My year did not start with the start of the season. As a first year GM last season, I was learning the system and my players. I played every sim to try to win every game. I did not “rebuild” as other teams have, so I earned my draft pick honestly. I did not trade away players to try to rack up on as many picks as possible. So going into the offseason, I had my first round pick, and my second round pick. I had the number 3 pick overall. I did not feel that there was a suitable player at that position to draft at the value of that pick. I attempted to try to trade my pick. With multiple offers, and some attempts at trape, I did not find a trade that would have equal value to the pick that I had. With that pick, I drafted Sam Cassell. Already having an elite point guard, that pick has been described as “questionable draft selection” (BallSoHard). Not everyone knew my plan with that pick. I knew by trade deadline that I would not have both point guards. The computer also drafted me a back up center in Scott Haskin. Instead of doing the automatic drop player like most people, I found a way to fit him into my system. Next comes training camp. In my first ever training camp, I was able to have the best change rate during this by entering it in manually (TrayWithAnA). I had a better with conditioning stats and without conditioning stats by a lot. Lets move onto free agency. I had one main goal during free agency: resign Rex Chapman. It has been questioned that I overpaid for this player, but this is the highest point scorer on my team from the previous year (Heat Team Page). Other than this main goal, my secondary goal was getting a back up for SF. I was able to sign Jeff Malone to a single year contract. He is a veteran that is a solid contributor off of the bench. Before the season began, I placed the goal of playoffs or bust. This may not have been a realistic goal for a team with my GM experience and current players. Nonetheless, the prediction was there. From the beginning of the season, I was playing with my line up. Shortly after the start of the season, I opened up discussion for trades of either Sam Cassell or Gary Payton. I also said I wanted to get rid of Tharon Mayes. I had some offers for Gary Payton that were damn near completed. Just before completion of a trade, I was given an offer for Sam Cassell. I ended up taking that offer, which let me keep my best player. I traded Sam Cassell for a 1996 first round pick, a backup PG in Erick Murdock and a backup center in Larry Nance (Heat/Warriors). After this trade, the analysis was “dealing up that questionable player (Cassell) for a questionable package has left them hamstrung. Playoffs unlikely” (BallsSoHard). I, however, question that initial analysis. I upgraded my back up center position. I exchanged what could be seen as at the moment equal quality point guards. I, also, got a future pick out it. Along with all of that, I even freed up some salary cap this year and upcoming years. However, I did not stop there. With that pick, along with Tharon Mayes, I was able to upgrade my center position exponentially. I had to give up my current center Dikembe Mutombo, but I got one of the top 5 centers in the league in Hakeem Olajuwon (Suns/Heat). So that “questionable draft pick” that became a “questionable trade” became Olajuwon. I have a team that has no all stars at all. I have a team that has an unexperienced GM. I have a team that never went into “rebuild” mode. I have a team that people have questioned the future. I have a team that will not enter the playoffs as a top seed. I have a team that will have a drastic improvement by the end of the season. I have a team that has one of the best futures. I have a team that has all of the originally assigned draft picks going forward. I have a team that nobody wants to see in the playoffs. From the beginning, I said all of this depends on the remaining few sims. If things continue as they are going, I will be a playoff team. If I miss the playoffs, I want to take back the candidacy of GM of the year. From the end of last season to the beginning of playoffs this season, my being a playoff team with my small potential and final incomes will be a greater accomplishment as a GM than any other candidates out there. To all those that believe they should be GMOY, prove to us you're not just another most-improved-team automatic qualifier. Right now everyone is playing for 2nd after that Heat post

I knew by trade deadline that I would not have both point guards. It was questionable and it still is questionable. Just because you pulled a rabbit out of a hat with the pick doesn't mean you planned to get Hakeem with it and the fact that you were shopping Payton earlier in the year proves this wasn't premeditated. Again, respect for pulling a rabbit out of an empty hat, but you're the one who showed up with the empty hat.. Outside of that I think you've done a good job with Hakeem, but you're no where close to the Mavs imho.

It can be seen as a questionable draft selection, and although I never thought I would get Hakeem, I did know I would get the pieces to improve my team, either immediately or in the future. Like people have said in the past, you can't judge GMOY off of trades that were not completed. Nobody knows all of the offers that I had for Payton. But what also isn't know is that when I made that trade, I was told that he was interested in that pick through the Hakeem trade. So at what point is it pulling a rabbit out of an empty hat, as opposed to consistently being there. Being persistent. Not giving up on a potential trade because you haven't heard anything in a couple of days. I had already been in the beginning of talks for Hakeem before I made the cassell trade. What can you really judge other than what you can completely see? What you can see is a three step program that got my #3 pick this year into Hakeem? Other than that, everyone is entitled to their opinion and if the Mavs is yours so be it, but thats why this is a campaign thread to throw out candidates.

You put yourself in a corner and you fought yourself out. But you still put yourself in it. At the end of the day you're fighting for an 8 seed going into the final run. You may get a 3 vote from me personally but again the Mavs are the clear front runner to me. Doesn't mean i'm trying to crap on what you've done. Its my opinion and i'm just being upfront about my vote.

I do appreciate your candor and honest opinion. I think things would be a lot better if everybody were more open about how they felt and just because its not the same doesn't make one right or wrong so thank you for that. As far as the no respect hashtag, the reason why I included your power rankings in my campaign is because I think your opinion is one of the more respected in the league and people appreciated your power rankings. So it was cited as more with respect.

I was just talking to him on a chat though, there's a lot of good candidates and i'd like to see the award passed around tbh.

I'll have my guys and i'll stand behind every one of them; but then again it's already a little political as we saw last year.

I hope that this vote isn't sullied by politics this year. The Mavericks are front runners at this point. Let's not let what we think happened last year determine how we judge the Mavericks. The guy has one of the best resumes for this season even if you start consideration after the #2 he acquired from his rebuild. The rest of the success is well-calculated General Manager moves.
I love what the Raptors have done, and they could eventually earn people's votes. What I said in the first paragraph is aimed at us not judging a team on what we thought they did to influence their draft pick.

All this politics about last year is about how everyone just voted the way they wanted and then were called wrong by others right?

Mavs and Raptors are high if I take my team out of the running, but the Mavs and my team are similar in my opinion. Take away Shaq and Penny.
He raped the Bulls for Seikaly, drafted Russell and signed Horace Grant. Those were his big moves. Seikaly has been very good and Grant has been Grant. Russell hasn't done anything this year.
I drafted Radja (who's been much better than Russell this season though Russell has more upside), signed Brian Shaw who's been big, resigned Chris Morris to a minimum contract who's been very productive, and signed Detlef yet survived him missing 29 games because I had enough depth to survive because of resigning Morris cheaply and drafted Radja.
But I will vote for Darth since I think he is a front runner regardless unless Soundwave can get the top seed in the East.

If I somehow muster up enough wins to win my division I should at least be in consideration of GMOY. I doubt I win either due to injuries and consistency not being rewarded.
That's it for my campaigning, I'll focus on being swayed by others now.

I don't consider last year a political problem. Just people getting it wrong. In going into rebuild mode the previous year and acquiring more picks as a result, it puts a team at an advantage going into the offseason and next season compared to people who did not acquire as many picks and kept the team they had. Just like having an elite team one year makes it easier to have an elite team the next year, having an abundance of picks from the previous year makes for an easier ascent from the depths in the current year. The previous year a team acquired more picks for the improvement of the rebuild going forward at the cost of wins in that current year. It's all about how you see it. If you don't consider that an advantage from either trading those picks or trading players from those picks, the rebuild from the year before is nothing to consider. It just begs the question of where to start your judgement of a team for GMOY for the current year and how do you value the improvement from the previous year without taking into account the choices of the previous year. To each their own.

To each their own. I don't know what to say. In the end the team he blew up had pieces that were worthy of picks. Honestly, it's the same thing Conroy did the year before. Is there a reason we are looking at them differently? When you acquire picks for your talent, it only makes sense that you would have the opportunity to then move those picks for other talent. Better talent that makes your team better than the last time they made the playoffs. Conroy did almost an identical thing but we ride Darth because his buddies know he reacts. No one can be forced to keep a team in tact if they don't want to.
