1993-94 Season Awards Process & Procedures
Voting for Most Improved Player (MIP), 6th Man of the Year (6MOY), and GM of the Year (GMOY)
Campaign Period (NOW until Last Sim of the Regular Season): Beginning today until the last sim of the season, there will be 3 campaigning threads where GMs can go to campaign for their own players (or themselves). Feel free to post stats, in-season achievements, moves made, pictures, biographies... Whatever it is that makes your player/yourself stand out above the rest. There will be 3 threads, one for each award. Please keep your "pimping" relevant to the award thread you are in. The campaigning period officially ends when the sim occurs.
Voting Period (Friday 4/11 POST SIM until DC Lock of the First Sim of Playoffs): Once the sim is completed, the voting period will officially begin. VOTES CAST PRIOR TO THIS WILL NOT COUNT. This voting period will go through the thread locking of the first sim of the playoffs. ALL VOTES CAST AFTER THE VOTING PERIOD IS CLOSED WILL NOT BE COUNTED. All votes must be within the same PM and sent to ONLY me (IamQuailman). Only your first submission will count; please only submit 1 PM of votes per team. This will help in keeping the votes organized.
Voting Set-Up:
6th Man of the Year: you will vote for 3 options, clearly labelled #1, #2, and #3. The #1 option will receive 5pts, #2 option will receive 3pts, and #3 option will receive 1pt. The player with the most points in the end wins the award. Please keep in mind: to be eligible for this award, the player MUST have come off the bench in more games than he starts (same rule as real NBA). If the guy has played 80 games this year and started 43 of those games, he would NOT be eligible. Most Improved Player: you will vote for 3 options, clearly labelled #1, #2, and #3. The #1 option will receive 5pts, #2 option will receive 3pts, and #3 option will receive 1pt. The player with the most points in the end wins the award. GM of the Year: you will vote for 3 options, clearly labelled #1, #2, and #3. The #1 option will receive 5pts, #2 option will receive 3pts, and #3 option will receive 1pt. The GM that receives the most points wins the award. Please remember to vote for who deserves this award and be as unbiased as possible. To ensure this, you are allowed to vote for your own player/yourself, but only as a #2 or #3 option.
PARTICIPATION POINTS: Participation in these award votings are vital to awards being fairly and accurately granted. As a result, there will be a pool of 50 points that will be awarded to GMs that participate in award voting... with a catch. If fewer than 15 GMs do not submit their ballots for these awards, no one is awarded points. If 15 or more do submit their ballots, then the pool of 50 points will be divided up equally amongst GMs as an award for participation. In the event of points ending in a decimal, the points will be rounded up to the nearest whole point. I.e. 20 ballots = 50 divided by 20... 2.5pts... rounded up = 3pts for each GM that votes. REMEMBER - you must vote for ALL THREE AWARDS to be considered as "participated" GM.

Why? Just seems like it will just cause animosity. Why not? If you're not willing to stand behind your votes, then don't vote that way. I am willing, and I did last year, but it just is unnecessary drama. So instead of people being mad at the masses. They will target certain voters, and that could just force people to vote with the masses. I don't think we'd get a true vote on what people think if they will be subject to scrutiny. I have no problem with it because I don't hold any grudges. Lol |

Lol If someone wants to jump out of the box and not vote for a clear number 1 at all on their ballot, all we're asking is to not be a coward and have the courage to stand by their convictions. Conroy has had to deal with the scruitny of winning last year's GMOY and all he did was field a good team. The real scrutiny should be placed on the people voting and now it will. If the team that wins, wins by 1 and doesn't vote the person who was the front runner at all, then they will have to live with that out in the public. Just vote right and all will be good. |

Tray should not have been off of any ballot under any criteria unless your criteria was to fuck Tray in the voting (ie leaving him off so your number 1 would net 5 points over Tray). By voting right i mean, don't play the points game. Put your clear #1, #2 and #3 and be able to back up your vote. Am i saying he HAD to be everyone's number 1, nope; not at all, but left off of it all together is pretty outlandish. Anonymous voting provides a shield to those that have hidden agendas. no one on this forum has any real power over anyone, so it's not like ancient Greece where if you don't vote a certain way your head would end up on a pike. If you can't stand up to text scruitney of your vote. |

Understood but this is on the edge of overreaction due to Tray losing. Fact is if we didn't screw up the timing tray would have won and nothing more would have been done, but instead the rules are changed and Doug,the person leading all of this, didn't even know! Not discussed by anyone I'm guessing but now some votes are going to be changed because they are "expected to vote right".
Don't like it. I don't give a fuck who knows who I vote for you won't hurt my feelings either way. It's shitty that tray didn't get a mention in votes if that happened but how do we know that happened? The timing was off, that was the problem. Blind polls are better than open

I also think that because it was tray one of the better contributors to the league and valuable GM here makes it even more of an overreaction.
I'm just trying to protect people from getting outed because they voted differently than what the people with the bigger voices in the league said they voted for(not trying to insult anyone there). Just the more active members already away votes. I think making it public only encourage people to vote with what the more active members campaign for.

We should all be level headed about this. Votes shouldn't be swayed because of it being a public vote. You have a belief in who you want to vote on. You should vote like that. I find it hard to believe that someone would leave the best candidate off their ballot this year to cook the votes but it's not unprecedented I guess.

The only part of this that is about me is having the votes in by the end of the season. It's what I campaigned for in the offseason and it's what many agreed with.
Public or private votes don't matter to me. It just saves us from having to deal unjustifiably bad ballots. Imagine someone leaving Conroy or myself off the ballot last year. There would be no reason for that happening. You can still do that this year but know your name will be attached and you'll have to own it. That's all.

Notice how only 10 people participate there? That's what in trying to say. |

I tend to believe you get more honest results from the voter if you tell them it is a blind poll rather than an open poll because of expectations. You might not think you have but when you posted it will be open I guarantee at least 1 of us changed our view and criteria. I don't agree that if we held it privately the league will just try to screw candidates over. I tend to be optimistic about our core of GMs and don't think they need to be treated like children who don't know how to vote |
