Welcome back for our next episode of the Tri-Weekly Pre-Sim Pick 'Em Panel! Before every sim, I will message 1 GM from each division and ask them to participate in this panel. I will present them with 6 match-ups each week. Each will then be tasked with the chance to pick the winners of each of their matchups. On top of those 6 picks, they will also have 1 wildcard pick, where they can pick their favorite match-up from the sim. On top of picking the winners, they must provide an argument for each pick (a few sentences would be fine).
Incentive: Everyone who participates will get 1 point to add to their media/article write-ups. At the end of the season, I will tally the total of correct picks from each panelist and note that in their division totals. At the end of the regular season, the division with the highest total number of correct picks WINS! The prize for winning you may ask? Each team in that division will receive 5 points as a reward. These points do NOT count towards the 10-pt article max... so it's another avenue for earning training points. (My picks won't count towards the Central Division). One caveat, if you do not participate in a panel, you don't get 5 points if your division wins.
Once the thread is posted, the participants are welcome to post their arguments for their picks WITHIN ONE POST (please). After everyone posts their picks, I will post up mine before the sim.
Let's get started on Sim 2: 11/29 - 12/12!
This sim's invited participants are...
From the Central Division... TrayWithAnA (Detroit Pistons). From the Atlantic Division... Ssj2Gohan (New York Knicks). From the Midwest Division... rockets78 (Houston Rockets). From the Pacific Division... gmessi (Los Angeles Clippers).
Don't worry, everyone will get their chance to participate!
So... onto the picks!
11/29/92 - Warriors @ Kings 11/29/92 - Bucks @ Pacers 12/01/92 - Mavericks @ Rockets (The Battle for Future Texas)
12/01/92 - Knicks @ Clippers 12/08/92 - Celtics @ Heat 12/09/92 - Pistons @ Bulls
PLUS your wildcard pick!
So, panelists... ball is in your court! Post up your picks!
(All others, please refrain from posting until after all picks are in... THANKS!)

WIG, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I HAVE TO START WITH AN 0-7 DEFICIT?!
11/29/92 - Warriors @ Kings
Kings - Warriors are hot and on a 10 game winning streak. Unfortunately, streaks like that are rare and don't tend to last long in this league. Kings have been dominate on defense and are at home. If it were in Golden State, I would be less sure of my pick, but in Sac-town, expect the Kings to win this one by a 10 point spread at least.
11/29/92 - Bucks @ Pacers
Pacers - I only give the nod to them because #1 I think that the Bucks are overachieving and the Pacers are where we expected them to be, and #2 the Pacers are at home. This one will be closer than my previous pick and could see it going either way, but for the sake of the Central Division's chances in this pick'em, I'm going with the odds on favorite in a close one.
12/01/92 - Mavericks @ Rockets (The Battle for Future Texas)
Rockets - Mavericks' GM wants this one, but unfortunately, I think things are coming together in Houston. After a wretched 0-8 start (at least), the Rockets pulled off 4 wins in the last sim. They are at home (Mavs better on road than at home interestingly enough), and I expect them to edge this one out. Unless he puts in a ludicrous depth chart, then all bets are off.
12/01/92 - Knicks @ Clippers
Knicks - LAC has lived on the three ball most of the season, and while that could change this sim, I don't see their chances against the Knicks being much better on the inside. NYK are 3-1 on the road and Clipps are .500 at home. I still think that this Clippers team is a few sims away from really hitting their stride. Catching a dominate East team this early isn't very good timing for that. Knicks by 10.
12/08/92 - Celtics @ Heat
Heat - Why are we picking this game? Heat are undefeated at home and Celtics are 3-7 on the road. Look for the Heat to pick up one of their few very winnable matchups at home. Nail-biter and possible OT game. Heat by 3.
12/09/92 - Pistons @ Bulls
Pistons - Obviously, their is a little homerism here. Detroit has been very good on the road and Michael Adams should be healthy for this bout meaning that the Pistons will be at full-strength which we haven't seen yet. I see this as a close one, but Detroit wins by 5 in the end.
WILD CARD 12/08/92 - Hornets @ Lakers
Lakers - For the sake of boosting the Central's horrible first sim in this contest, I look to our fellow Central brethern not to let their team down. Lakers demolished a much more talented Rockets team by 63 points last sim. This game is in LA. Lakers want to ensure that the Hornets keep on losing in the Los Angeles version of 'tanking.' I don't think their is any way that the Hornets cover my own self imposed 20-point spread. I would be impressed if they did, but I'll also be chalking this up as another win for the best division in the league...in our own peculiar way.

11/29/92 Warriors @ Kings A division match-up against two of the top teams in the Pacific Division. Both teams like to score and play good defense. The Shawn Kemp/Karl Malone match-up should be a fun one to watch along with the PGs of Muggsy and Pooh. I like the WARRIORS to take this game because of the play at the SF position. Warriors by 8.
11/29/92 Bucks @ Pacers Another division match-up against top teams in the same division. The Pacers have one of the best bigs in the game in Patrick Ewing and one of the best up and coming stars at the SF position in Stacey Augmon. The Bucks are a good all around team with quality players at each position. In this game, I see the Bucks outrebounding the Pacers and that will be the difference in the game. I think Otis Thorpe will get some put backs on the offensive boards for the Bucks which could be the difference in the game. I think this will be a good game decided by just 3 points with the edge going to the BUCKS.
12/1/92 Mavericks @ Rockets Two words to decide this one, SHAQUILLE O'NEAL. This game will simply come down to this, do the Mavericks have anyone to stop this rookie on the inside. Simple answer is no. I look for this to be a pretty easy win for the ROCKETS. They win by 12.
12/1/92 Knicks @ Clippers Would Jim Finks (Saints GM 1992) pick against his black and gold. No!! In the same regard, gmessi will not pick against his Clippers. This may seems a bit ludacris because just like the Mavericks have no one to stop Shaq, the Clippers have no one to stop David Robinson. In a game where you would expect the Clippers to push the pace to get the Knicks tired, that would not matter in this game. The Knicks are a great team with great conditioning. Sometimes, you need to swallow your pride and make a decision based on the facts. As much as it pains me to say KNICKS win by 15. Let's be honest, my defense sucks.
12/8/92 Celtics @ Heat Celtics found their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow this offseason when Alonzo Mourning fell into their laps (I'm still baffled by this). The Heat are an underachieving team due to a GM that is new to the game and is learning. I don't have much to say about this game, but I think the HEAT will win by 5.
12/9/92 Pistons @ Bulls The Pistons were the early favorites to win it all the computers told us. They took an early hit with Michael Adams being out due to injury, but he is back. The most entertaining match-up in this game is at the SF position where Steve Smith will go against Chris Mullin. That should be a fun match up, but I think this game will be decided by the shooting of Reggie Miller. PISTONS by 8
WILDCARD 12/5/92 Kings @ Nets Unlike Tray, I am picking a game that features two of the top teams in each conference. I guess he doesn't have the Balls to make a real pick. Even though these are two of the top teams in each conference, the Nets would have the advantage in this match-up. Karl Malone, Nate McMillan, and Pooh Richardson form an excellent core for the Kings, but I think Tyrone Hill, Reggie Lewis, Elden Campbell, Kenny Smith, and Dee Brown will be too much coming from every position for the Kings. NETS by 9.

11/29/92 - Warriors @ Kings
I see this being a really close one but in the end the Kings will pull it off cuz lets face it i don't see many people being able to stop malone. Malone will be the deciding factor and the fact that the Kings are at home. Kings by 4.
11/29/92 - Bucks @ Pacers
Another nail biter here. But the Pacers will win this one. the Pacers are top 4 team in the league imo and they're at home.So they will win this one by 3.
12/01/92 - Mavericks @ Rockets (The Battle for Future Texas)
The battle of the horrible teams.lol. But the Rockets are on a few game win streak so they have a little bit of momentum going into this gameplus they are at home and the Mavs have no one to be able to guard Shaq who will dominate this game. Rockets by 12.
12/01/92 - Knicks @ Clippers
Well this is an easy one to pick. the Knicks will win this one,and not just because they are my team. The Knicks road record is better than their home record at 3-1,plus the most obvious reason of them all.The Knicks have the best player in the league in David Robinson And the Clippers have no one to even be able to slow down Robinson. Knicks by 7.
12/08/92 - Celtics @ Heat
Im going to pick the Heat on this one. both teams are underachieving imo, both could have .500 records right now,at least. But the heat are at home and are undefeated at home. so the heat win by 6.
12/09/92 - Pistons @ Bulls
well this will be an entertaining one to watch.i see both teams shooting a high percentage and scoring alot. But the difference factor here is, Michael Adams should be back healthy which we haven't seen yet. i think the pistons are alot better team than their record shows. So i have the Pistons winning by 9.
WILDCARD- 12/02/1992 - Pacers @ Hawks
This will be a good one. As of last season the Pacers was the ONE team that could "beat the hawks". Which is something i'm curious to see if its true. Now some might be thinking that the Pacers win this easy being the Hawks last sim was atrocious and that happened without them even having any injuries. But i see them bouncing back this sim and making a statement using the Pacers to make that statement. Hawks by 16.

11/29/92 - Warriors at Kings
I have a soft spot for the Warriors since I run them in the IJBL league and the version may be better than the 2065 version so I'm sticking with them in this huge divisional matchup. They're hot, playing well, and the Kings showed some vulnerability at home in the last sim barely winning in OT against my Rockets.
11/29/92 - Bucks at Pacers
Another big divisional matchup, but this time in the Central Division. I like what the Bucks have been doing on the road this season and I think they are currently the best team in the division. They just two on the 27th at Indiana, but its tough to beat a team on the road twice in a row. That's why I'm going with the Pacers in this matchup, but I think I like the Bucks long-term.
12/01/92 - Mavs at Rockets
Two rebuilding teams on this I-45 matchup in-state. Rockets have won 4 out of their last 5 after an 0-9 start. Shaq has been big lately and I think the Rockets really need this game to keep pace in the Midwest Division. Mavs don't have anyone to really stop Shaq and I think he carries the Rockets to a victory in a close hard-fought matchup.
12/01/02 - Knicks at Clippers
Fun, fun East-West matchup with the two biggest markets in the country tuning in. Clippers can extend the defense which will make it tough for DRob and Tarpley to defend the paint, but the Clippers haven't been as constant as the Knicks so far. Maybe the Clips finally figure things out, but the safe bet is with the Atlantic leading Knicks.
12/08/92 - Celtics at Heat
The reason this game is on the list is due to being the first NBA matchup between two former Georgetown twin-towers in Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning. Both are now expected to lead their franchises like their predecessor Patrick Ewing. Big expectations for the Celtics coming into the season with the addition of Mitch Richmond and Alonzo Mourning, but they have struggled on the road so far this season. Miami on the other hand have played well on the road. I see the trend continuing with the Heat winning this one.
12/09/92 - Pistons at Bulls
The Bulls haven't played their best, especially at home while the Pistons are 5-2 at home and have Michael Adams. Both teams can score, but neither are great defensively. I think the Pistons are a little ahead right now so I'm going to go with them.
Wild Card 12/2/92 - Lakers at Grizzlies
Rematch of last year's stunning playoff upset where the Grizzlies won. Lakers are playing extremely well so far, but one of their home losses was a thrilling 133-128 victory for the Grizz. Lakers did win at the Grizzlies earlier as well pretty easily and this matchup also has two of the most charismatic and consistent GMs in the league. I think the Lakers are playing really well right now and will take this one.

11/29/92 - Warriors @ Kings These match-ups are always fun, and I would love to elaborate on it. But to be honest, I could just copy and paste the Skype chat conversation post-sim. It would tell you everything about this matchup (and the rest of the Pacific as well). To be fair, the top 3 teams in the league are also the top 3 teams in the Pacific. So this matchup should be pretty good with the Kings who are defensively ready to pound it out with the Warriors. Honestly, Kemp and Malone negate each other; this matchup will be about who's got the best surrounding pieces. It's really a toss up, but the acquisition of Reggie Williams will be the X factor in this matchup since it throws a new cog in a well oiled working machine. I picked against Sacramento the first time, and they won. Let's see what happens this time when I pick them to win. Kings 11/29/92 - Bucks @ Pacers
This is the battle for the top spot in the Central (at least at this point in the sim), and it's quite a doozy. The Bucks defense and rebounding has been surprisingly great (+9 avg. pt. differential last sim), along with the production out of Robert Horry. The Pacers have been pretty impressive throughout their season, with Ewing and Augmon really taking to heart the 1-2 punch. Augmon will come back in this game and abuse Horry though. They managed to drop a game to the Bucks not even two days prior in overtime, but I don't expect lightning to strike twice in the same place. The Pacers win by 7. 12/01/92 - Mavericks @ Rockets (The Battle for Future Texas)
The Rockets are starting to take off after they filled their tank with 93 Shaqtane gasoline. The Mavericks, on the other hand, emptied their tank in the offseason and may get steamrolled. Rockets will win the rebounding battle and the game. 12/01/92 - Knicks @ Clippers
This match-up is probably one of the more exciting matchups to pick this sim. The Knicks are visiting the Clippers, and bring with them a sense and style of smash mouth down low defensive basketball. Problem is... the Clippers don't care about that. They will pull David Robinson and Ron Tarpley out of the paint when trying to guard Terry Mills and Cliff Robinson, which could lead to open drives to the basket by Mr. Sprewell and Co. I'm excited to see how this one pans out, and will even go out on the limb to pick the upset special of Clippers over Knicks. 12/08/92 - Celtics @ Heat
Slow rebuild vs. Speed rebuild. What is working and what isn't working. The Celtic GM is still trying to figure out their pieces recently acquired in the offseason and how they all fit. The Heat Gm is doing the same with less experience in the NBA. The real question here is this - what happened to Gary Payton? I think the Celtics will win this one in a somewhat messy, turnover-laden battle of the future Eastern powerhouses. 12/09/92 - Pistons @ Bulls
This is another match-up that will be shaping the Central Division. With the Hawks early season struggles, 4 teams in the Central are clamoring for the position of power. Pistons have been one of the teams really hot and on the rise with all their young talent. The Bulls have some interesting pieces in place (primarily Chris Mullin and John Stockton) that create magic on the court. Which one will win this battle? Well no one can contain Stockton, but a returning Michael Adams can do a better job of it than David Wesley. On all other fronts, this will be another shoot out. I think the Pistons can eek out a win on a last possession shot.
WILDCARD: 12/06/92 - Knicks @ Hawks Knicks being away is the only real vunerability this team has at the moment. Can the Hawks take advantage of that? Better question, can their revolving door of big bodies beat back David Robinson and his overpowering offense. Home court usually is the advantage, but Knicks are the new powerhouse in the East. I'm going to go with (sorry Wig) the Knicks.
Check back later tonight after the sim to see what the outcome of the picks are and which division gets ahead!
