Brief summary of our offseason
1. Landed 3rd pick with 7th best odds and choose SG Steve Smith from Michigan State. Although he is listed as an SG, he will start at SF. We are not worried about his transition because he is a bigger 2, and he should size up well against the 3s in this league. He is a great second scoring option for this team.
2. Shipped Michael Adams and Buck Williams off to Milwaukee for PG Johnny Dawkins, 26th overall C Marty Conlon, and their 1994 first rounder. Adams' 7 & 8 will be sorely missed as will Buck's 8 & 8. C Hot Rod Williams will be moved over to PF for the 1991 season. We expect Dawkins to outperform Adams on the offensive side of the ball mainly because of Miller and Smith being high percentage shooters. He should average 8 assists per without a problem. We expect Michael Adams to decline and increase the value of that unprotected 1994 Bucks first. Good luck, Michael.
3. Shipped off Willie Anderson because the Nuggets asked nicely (offered two picks.) Ken Norman will fill his role as the sixth man and we expect to try him out a little at 4 this year too.
4. Free Agency wasn't a terribly exciting group this year, but we added a role player at each position, you know, in case shit happens. Most will not see the floor this year.
5. Our expectations are low this year, but we think that we could improve on our record from last year depending on some different gambles we are taking with the lineup.
Opening the floor for questions. I'll be making the rounds at some of the other media events in the mean time.

You have potentially the most exciting backcourt duo between Miller and Smith. Do you think Smith is the next step going forward or do you have one more piece to go? Also do you think Smith will beat Larry Johnson for the ROY award?

Jack Markson here from The Golden Take. What would have to occur this season for you to consider it a disappointment?

Also do you think Smith will beat Larry Johnson for the ROY award? I think we are another piece away from being where we want to be, but we hope to address that with one of our 6 first rounders in the next three drafts. Smith and Miller are the cornerstones and we could see most of our other starters being kept around as solid backups, but for now we just have to play the games and hope to develop a gameplan that maxes out everyone. As far as ROY, I'm not really worried about it. Larry Johnson is a beast and should be looked at as the favorite on the Lakers playoff contending roster. Smith will give him a run for his money.

What is your long-term plan? Long term plan is to be stubborn and hold onto the pieces I have and not sell them off. Like I said in the post before, the 6 picks in the next three years is probably more than we need to make this team a long term threat. Focus on developing Miller and Smith and go from there.

We made some moves for the long term success of the Pistons and unfortunately that may have made us a worse team this year. I think seeing Miller and Smith put up lousy numbers on the stat sheet would be the biggest disappointment. Those guys are gonna be in the backcourt together for a long time, so seeing them struggle to gel this year would be tough.
