Like in my case, I offered Smith a 5-yr max cause I was retaining him. The extra money per year is better than what that 5th year will cost me in 1999's UFA. Only I had the opportunity to offer him that contract. Still confused. So you can bid on Smith during this RFA phase, and you can bid the 5 year max? I don't have a RFA, so I'm just wondering for the future, when Stoudamire takes over the league (i hope). Yeah, I could have just opted to hear what the best offer was and match it. That likely was a 4yr/10% max. I elected to send him the 5yr/12.5% max because I want him in a pistons jersey through the turn of the century.

If you don't bid at all on a RFA, can you then bid on them in round 1?

While you'll miss round 1 because you didn't express an interest in the player here during the RFA bidding period, you will be able to bid on him in round 2 if he doesn't sign a deal in the first sim. Same as normal Free Agency at that point. If you want to be considered in round 1, bid now.

If I don't enter a bid on my RFA, and nobody else does either, will his "demands" be considered the high bid and offered to me to match or will he fall directly into UFA and everyone (me included?) can bid on him then?

His demand is the high bid. Then it's just the old proposed system where you accept or decline his demand.

After accounting for cap hold I have about 1.3 million in cap space for RFA bids. Can I offer 1.3 million each to two guys? Or must the total of my bids for other RFAs be 1.3 million (I.e. I can only offer .65 million each to 2 other RFAs)?

Hold I am confused again. Do I have to bid on my player I am trying to retain right now? I don't believe you need to bid on your own player if you accepted the QO. If someone chooses to match it with their own bid, you have the right to either match it or let them sign with the team with the highest bid.

If you decline, bids submitted for that player remain in the system for Round 1 and no other bids will be taken for round 1 for that RFA player. In Round 2, if the player is available, you can then submit a bid.

Hold on I am confused again. Do I have to bid on my player I am trying to retain right now? No, you will have the ability to match bids that were sent in, regardless of whether or not you submit a bid now.

No, you will have the ability to match bids that were sent in, regardless of whether or not you submit a bid now. So I can still put a bid in on Davis right now and then match it if it is more than I offered, Right?
