(The board will continue to update along with live coverage of the 1992 Sim League Draft. Enjoy!)
NOLa.'s BOARD #1) Shaquille O'Neal - C - 7'1 301 lbs Strengths: Excellent inside scorer and a brute down low; has the size, strength, and athleticism to hold the anchor down low by himself.; potential Hall of Famer. Weaknesses: Will be heavily turnover prone and horrendous FT shooter; horrible shooter outside 2 feet; quickness a little questionable. #2) Alonzo Mourning - C/PF - 6'10 240 lbs Strengths: Potential DPOY; good rebounder but not elite; also a terrific athlete that gives him ability to be used as a PF. Weaknesses: Not a reliable scorer yet but is capable of doing so; not efficient shooting the ball outside of 2 feet. Will be a little turnover prone. #3) Latrell Spreewell - SG/PG - 6'5 190 lbs Strengths: Balance, balance, balance. Balanced scorer and shooter, handles the ball well and can create for others, and will be a dominant perimeter defender. Weaknesses: Very few if any. Just needs time to develop and some training in and will become an elite SG in the league. #4) Robert Horry - PF/SF - 6'10 220 lbs Strengths: Versatility first popped into mind, especially as a defender. Great handles for his position and a good outside scorer. Most intriguing prospect in the draft. Weaknesses: Post defense low right now but will develop, rebounding leaves something to be desired as well. Not a good fit on an inside scoring team. #5) Doug Christie - SG - 6'6 205 lbs Strengths: Sim League ready perimeter defender; with time will groom into a good outside scorer and passer that can move to PG. Prospect that needs time to develop. Weaknesses: A liability as a scorer right now though; handles and passing skills are low right now as well. Stamina low for a G. #6) John Barry - SG - 6'5 204 lbs Strengths: Excellent ball handler and a good outside scorer; with training will become a good perimeter defender as well. Weaknesses: Poor athlete, probably better suited for a slower paced team. Liability as a rebounder and play maker for others. #7) Christian Laettner - PF - 6'11 245 lbs Strengths: Solid PF in the areas you want your player to be in. Can score, rebound, and defend bigger Fs and Cs when needed. Weaknesses: Have to wonder just how much room for improvement he really has potentially. #8) Jim Jackson - SG - 6'6 220 lbs Strengths: A balanced scorer just like Spreewell and is a good offensive rebounder for his position. Weaknesses: Defense is a big liability for this player and has poor handles for his position. May need to be on a team with more motion. #9) Tom Gugliotta - PF - 6'10 240 lbs Strengths: Very comparable to Laettner, a balanced PF that is capable of being a decent defender with the tendency to steal from other Fs with poor handling. Weaknesses: Just like Laettner as well, balanced in the important areas for a PF but might not have much room to grow. #10) Bryant Stith - SG - 6'5 208 lbs Strengths: Raw prospect with tons of potential offensively and defensively. Weaknesses: Not a reliable player to play heavy minutes yet as he is very raw. Rebounding may be an issue.

1. Houston Rockets - Shaq The first obvious and consensus #1 pick in the draft, it's kind of bland to go too much into detail on this pick since Shaq is... Shaq. HoF potential and an excellent fit on anyone's team since he will basically be your team. Rockets will need to shift focus into running a more slower and halfcourt style of offense to suit this massive player. Grade: A
2. Boston Celtics - Zo The second obvious pick and certainly the consensus #2 pick in the draft, the Celtics got an excellent piece to start their rebuild with a defensive monster at the anchor down low in Zo. Strong and athletic with room to grow offensively and defensively Zo was not a bad consolation prize at #2 at all! Grade: A
3. Los Angeles Clippers - Spree The last of the what was thought of as the "set top 3 picks" in the draft, Spreewell is different than all the other SGs that flooded this class because he will be good at everything as a guard. He can score inside and out with balance, handles the ball well, defends, and is a good athlete. He was made ready to compete now and still has room to grow in just about every category. Great get by the Clips. Grade: A
4. Seattle SuperSonics - Doug Christie Things got interesting as soon as the Top 3 Talents were off the board. With both starting G positions set and a need in the frontcourt, the Sonics decided to select Christie to add depth at the SG spot. Doug is by no means a bad player as he is probably the best perimeter defender in the draft and will have a good outside shot, but in a draft top heavy and filled to the top with SGs and multiple picks the Sonics could have swung trades to probably pick up a SG and PF at the top of the draft to fill serious needs to the worse team in Sim League. Grade: C+
5. Milwaukee Bucks - Robert Horry Most intriguing prospect in the draft is also the most interesting pick. Select at #5 in the draft by the Bucks, Horry displays versatility to be an all-around great defender with excellent handles and outside shot for his position. The downside? Rebounding is particularly weak which is not welcome news. However, if he plays the 3 his size at 6'10 will more than make up for weak rebounding, it's when he slides to his natural 4 where he might run into problems. Some consider a reach and others a gamble, but for the team I like this pick. Bucks have the size currently to make up for rebounding. Grade: B
6. Miami Heat - Jim Jackson Mr. Uter failed the Heat. The team with no need for another guard, much less a SG, picked up SG Jim Jackson. I usually never question Mr. Uter who is a very fine GM and trainer, but his drafting skills may need some work. There were two really good PFs still on the board and the team had none, and if there was a GM with half a brain that knew how to log in they would have known this pick would be weak sauce. Whatev. Grade: D
7. Detroit Pistons - Christian Laettner The winner of a couple of questionable picks and a gamble by the Bucks, the Pistons were rumored to have trades lined up if Christian was not available I believe but lucked out and was able to pick up the solid PF out of Puke. Solid PF that is well balanced and will do all the little things right as a starting forward. With shooters Miller and Smith the strength of the team, Christian can probably help Pistons crash the offensive boards more to put back those missed jump shots. Grade: B+
8. Charlotte Hornets - Tom Gugliotta Good pickup by the Hornets here at #8 although I'm never too sure if the Hornets are adding what they need or not anymore with the abundance of trades. Gugliotta is Laettner Lite with slightly better defense which is a good thing because it's what the Hornets need. Might not be the best rebounder at the 4 but should be able to get the job done, however I'm not sure how much room he has to grow in that particular area. Will need time to grow to become a reliable starter. Grade: B
9. Toronto Raptors - Jon Barry The Raptors were put in an unfortunate spot when none of the PFs fell to them and were stuck with the flood of SGs. The problem? The Raptors were already set with three solid guards and Rick Fox. Walt was also a possible get for the Raptors but I'm not sure how they felt about his fit with the team and if he was worth the ninth pick in the draft. Jon Barry will be a good scorer and defender for the team but you have to wonder if there's enough playing time to go around or if the team makes some moves. Grade: B-
10. Philadelphia 76ers - PJ Brown The 76ers took a really solid pick here in terms of talent, potential, and fit with the team. PJ has plenty of room to grow and is a perfect fit for a balanced or outside shooting team with his sweet jump shot. A little raw at the moment and will be interesting to see if the team starts PJ his rookie season or go after a free agent to ease the transition but will still be a solid role player now. Grade: B
11. Minnesota Timberwolves - Walt Williams It was reported that the team was disappointed they came one pick short of their target PJ Brown but got a decent player in Walt Willams. He's not a wing player but more of a forward that gives the Wolves some versatility to play the SF and PF positions, but is stuck in a tweener role as a slow and inside oriented 3. Underrated shooter and don't think teams really noticed that. Grade: B-
12. Portland Trailblazers - Byrant Stith Unfortunately Mr. Uter picked up a player that I thought would be a good player for someone to pick and develop over the next few seasons and reminded me of Bobby Phils from last seasons draft. Maybe one day we can fill these teams and we can hand of a deserved grade, but until then Mr. Uter made a decent pick to add youth and potential in an area in need of depth. You got this one right you bastard. Grade: C
13. Detroit Pistons - David Wesley The Pistons went ahead and picked up the only PG worth being taken in the first half of the round and I think it was a good one. Wesley may not take over ball games but he has the build of a solid contributor and defender off the bench and with seasoning a starting role. The only other position the Pistons legitmately needed was the C position but I don't think there was anyone that warranted a lotto pick. Grade: B-
14. Toronto Raptors - Hubert Davis I can't lie, I wasn't a big fan of this pick and I'm still not. After taking SG Barry the Raptors pick up an almost-identical-but-slightly-less-talented Hubert Davis. In an even more crowded backcourt I'm not sure how these players will be that effective, and the team really needed a forward or center. Trade bait is all I see realistically unless one of the other guards are moved. A better scorer than Barry right now is a plus. Grade: C-

I really saw the 4 spot as an opportunity for the Supersonics to move down a few slots and get maybe 2 guys near as good as Christie. Having an elite Perimeter defender helps though. Would have been interesting if they kept Blaylock instead of the current.

Christie is a good player and will be a great defender but with needs in the frontcourt I thought there was a good opportunity to fill that need and get a little something in return for trading back a spot or two.

I think that with Horry gone, the Heat have to go with Gugliotta. He's not the sexiest choice at #6, but I think he's the better fit. He's more versatile than Laettner, his ability to split time between SF and PF is a very good thing for a squad lacking any semblance of a real frontcourt other than Mutombo. Also, the fact that Gugliotta's a slightly better defender than Laettner makes him a better fit for a defensive-minded Miami squad.

Fuck Sources, Toronto GM Soundwave says on the record that he doesn't give a shit about the Pistons' pick. He knew last night where Laettner was going. He just likes to say "Fuck you Trey" as often as possible and doesn't need an excuse to do so.

Just got slaughtered for taking the best players available with both my picks. Guess I should have reached. I understood the Barry pick. Best player and such and another SG wasn't a bad choice. But the next one I'm certain you could have traded back and gotten one of the forwards available. Now you got a log jam and I can't see any good of it unless you trade

That's what I get for listening to Quail.
But I am now guard rich and thinking two moves ahead. To be honest, TC scares me as well. It's gotten in my head and potential weighed heavily in my rankings. The two forwards going before Barry made some trades fall through, and Davis was just that much better than anyone else at that spot. Having a team loaded with rookie contracts heading into FA isn't a bad thing either.
