Sports Guy Bill Simmons here, I'm starting grad school here shortly and thought I'd begin my writing career talking about Sim League. I'm a huge Boston homer but since they are more worried about future drafts I'm going to focus on the top 10 scorers in the league this season. I took the top 10 looked at their stats, and gave each player an overall score based on their ratings and playing style. Here's the list by player, team, ppg, OVR score
1. Karl Malone - Kings - 40.0 ppg - 82.0
2. David Robinson - Knicks - 39.3 ppg - 90.9
3. Charles Barkley - Cavs - 38.7 - 76.4
4. Michael Jordan - Jazz - 33.4 - 82.6
5. Hakeem Olajuwon - Suns - 32.5 - 90.8
6. Shawn Kemp - Warriors - 32.3 - 84.7
7. Reggie Miller - Pistons - 29.1 - 72.8
8. Wayman Tisdale - Wizards - 26.6 - 56.7
9. Larry Johnson - Lakers - 26.5 - 68.9
10. Clyde Drexler - T'Wolves - 25.9 - 75.0
A few notes I scribbled down on my yellow legal pad:
-There are 2 Centers, 3 SG's and 5 PF's
-The average age for these 10 guys is 26.8
-There is nobody 30 or older in the top 10
-The oldest players are 29 (there are 4, Barkely, Jordan, Olajuwon, Drexler)
-Kemp is the youngest player at 22
-LJ is the only rookie
-Tisdale is the only "yellow" block player on the list
-LJ looks like a younger, better rebounding and passing version of Tisdale
-The Avg ppg for top 10 is 32.4
-The Avg OVR score is 78
-David Robinson has the highest OVR score of 90.9, Tisdale has the worst at 56.7
I hate to keep ragging on Tisdale but he by far has the worst FG% shooting 46% from the field a full 10% worse than guys like Robinson, Barkley, Malone. I'm going to keep looking into a few stats here and there and will respond to this thread with any other interesting nuggets of info I come across.
