If everyone is in an all-fired hurry to move to autodraft to get things over with, may I suggest going "semi-automatic"? Those that want a quick draft get it, those that want control over whom they pick get it. Here's how it would work (starting with, say, round 6, because that would let us basically complete the draft in one day):
1. Groups of five picks are made every half hour. Everyone can come up with a list of five players when you know you're on the clock, right?
2. Picks are done on a schedule so you know EXACTLY when (a) the group before you will pick and (b) when your list is due.
3. If you have submitted a list, your list is used. Otherwise, you get auto-picked.
For example:
8:00 am - Round 6, picks 1-5 are run (Nets, Bucks, Rockets, Grizzlies, Blazers)
8:30 am - Round 6, picks 6-10 are run (Pelicans, Clippers, Spurs, Sonics, Magic)
9:00 am - Round 6, picks 11-15 are run (Raptors, Celtics, Pistons, 76ers, Cavaliers)
9:30 am - Round 6, picks 16-20 are run (Mavs, Lakers, Bulls, Pacers, Hawks)
10:00 am - Round 6, picks 21-25 are run (Warriors, Kings, Nuggets, Twolves, Wizards)
10:30 am - Round 6, picks 26-29 and Round 7 pick 1 is run (Suns, Knicks, Heat, Jazz, Nets)
11:00 am - Round 7, picks 2-6 are run (Bucks, Rockets, Grizzlies, Blazers, Pelicans)
11:30 am - Round 7, picks 7-11 are run (Clippers, Spurs, Sonics, Magic, Raptors)
noon - Round 7, picks 12-16 are run (Celtics, Pistons, 76ers, Cavs, Mavs)
12:30 pm - Round 7, picks 17-21 are run (Lakers, Bulls, Pacers, Hawks, Warriors)
1:00 pm - Round 7, picks 22-26 are run (Kings, Nuggets, Twolves, Wizards, Suns)
1:30 pm - Round 7, picks 27-29 and Round 8 picks 1-2 are run (Knicks, Heat, Jazz, Jazz, Heat)
2:00 pm - Round 8, picks 3-7 are run (Knicks, Suns, Wizards ,Twolves Nuggets)
2:30 pm - Round 8, picks 8-12 are run (Kings, Warriors, Hawks, Pacers, Bulls)
3:00 pm - Round 8, picks 13-17 are run (Lakers, Mavs, Cavs, 76ers, Pistons)
3:30 pm - Round 8, picks 18-22 are run (Celtics, Raptors, Magic, Sonics, Spurs)
4:00 pm - Round 8, picks 23-27 are run (Clippers, Pelicans, Blazers, Grizzlies, Rockets)
4:30 pm - Round 8, picks 28-29 and Round 9, picks 1-3 are run (Bucks, Nets, Jazz, Heat, Knicks)
5:00 pm - Round 9, picks 4-8 are run (Suns, Wizards, Twolves, Nuggets, Kings)
5:30 pm - Round 9, picks 9-13 are run (Warriors, Hawks, Pacers, Bulls, Lakers)
6:00 pm - Round 9, picks 14-18 are run (Mavs, Cavs, 76ers, Pistons, Celtics)
6:30 pm - Round 9, picks 19-23 are run (Raptors, Magic, Sonics, Spurs, Clippers)
7:00 pm - Round 9, picks 24-28 are run (Pelicans, Blazers, Grizzlies, Rockets, Bucks)
7:30 pm - Round 9, pick 29 and Round 10, picks 1-4 are run (Nets, Nets, Bucks, Rockets, Grizzlies)
8:00 pm - Round 10, picks 5-9 are run (Blazers, Pelicans, Clippers, Spurs, Sonics)
8:30 pm - Round 10, picks 10-14 are run (Magic, Raptors, Celtics, Pistons, 76ers)
9:00 pm - Round 10, picks 15-19 are run (Cavs, Mavs, Lakers, Bulls, Pacers)
9:30 pm - Round 10, picks 20-24 are run (Hawks, Warriors, Kings, Nuggets, Twolves)
10:00 pm - Round 10, picks 25-29 are run (Wizards, Suns, Knicks, Heat, Jazz)
Then we auto-sim the rest of the draft without lists.
Doing it this way lets every owner know exactly when to check in and when the draft will be done. For example, as the Hawks, I know I need to check in:
1. around 9 am to see who's been taken so far and get my list of 5 players in before 9:30 am.
2. around noon to see who's been taken and get my list of 5 more players in before 12:30 pm
3. Around 2 pm to see who's been taken and get my next list in before 2:30 pm.
4. Around 5 pm to see who's been taken and get my next list in before 5:30 pm.
5. Around 9 pm to see who's been taken and get my final list in before 9:30 pm.
This means I don't have to watch the forums all day like a teenage girl waiting for my phone to ring but I can be confident that nobody will be waiting on me and that I'll be able to pretty much draft who I want if I take the time to put in a list.
