Welcome to the 95-96 All-Star Predictions. This year All-Star weekend will be hosted by Eazy and the Spurs. Keep your head on a swivel all those gifs Eazy posts should be out in full force this weekend. OK let's get on with the predictions we'll start in the Eastern Conference.
The Starting Five
C: David Robinson (Knicks) - Second in the league in scoring, third in the league in rebounds. Robinson is a staple as the starting Center in the East for the All-Star game nothing changes this year.
PF: Tom Gugliotta (Hornets) - "Gugs" is finally playing his natural position thanks to Patrick Ewing graciously being sent over by the Mavs to play Center for the Hornets. Gugs does everything well and is currently leading the league in rebounds.
SF: Stacey Augmon (Pacers) - This is always a tough debate and the nod went to Steve Smith last year. I have to give it to Augmon this time around. He's leading the league in scoring and is a better defender.
SG: Anthony Peeler (76ers) - Reggie Miller had been a staple here, until he switched positions once and teams twice since the last ASG. This has turned into a 3 man race with Peeler, Rider, and Jones. I just went with the highest scorer. I think all 3 make it.
PG: Gary Payton (Heat) - Whatever the gap between the Glove Kidd was, it is basically non-existent now. Payton gets the nod for having a slightly better A/T ratio and a full steal per game more. But him and Kidd are right there for best PGs in the East.
The Reserves
C: Alonzo Mourning (Celtics) - Zo is doing Zo things averaging 20/10 and leading the league in blocks and is 3rd in FG%. He'll never be as flashy as Robinson, but should definitely be enjoying his 4th straight All-Star Game.
PF: Anthony Mason (76ers)- With Malone and Larry Johnson off to the west. Coleman playing team basketball in Boston, Anthony Mason makes it back to the All-Star game having a better season than last year. He has increased his scoring, rebounding, FG%, but is also playing an extra 5 mins per game.
SF: Steve Smith (Pistons) - The argument can still be made that he should start, but Smith is one of the best players in the league, he just isn't carrying the scoring load that Augmon currently is.
SG: Isiah Rider (Nets) - He's averaging more points, more rebounds, and his shooting a better FG% than Jones giving him the reserve nod.
PG: Jason Kidd (Magic) - He's probably ready to start this game, but I gave the edge to Payton. Kidd is having a great year and even with missing some time already has 2 triple doubles on the season.
The Wildcards
SG Eddie Jones (Magic) - Who knows he may even start the game, regardless of how he gets there I think Jones makes his second all-star game in just his second year.
SG Nick Anderson (Wizards) - The Eastern squad probably needs another big man at this point, but its hard to ignore the season Nick Anderson is having, and is nice to see an older vet get rewarded. Just goes to show how many quality wing players there are in the East.
Now onto the West
The Starting Five
C: Shaquille O'Neal (Rockets) - Shaq is having a down year by his standards, but is still one of the most dominating forces in this league. He's still second leading rebounder, top 15 scorer, and 5th in FG%
PF: Shawn Kemp (Warriors) - OP as in this joke is Over-Played. Just kidding Kemp is Over-Powered, and he's the best player in the game. He starts here.
SF: Dennis Scott (Lakers) - He's the 4th leading scorer in the league currently and had to fight off competition from recently relocated Reggie Miller, Latrell Spreewell, and former Laker Cedric Ceballos. But Scott starts for me.
SG: Glen Rice (Warriors) - Last year I was certain Spreewell would take over Jordans spot here. I was half right, Jordan was replaced and if Spree still played SG he'd be here. But now Rice takes over the starting role.
PG: Anfernee Hardaway (Mavericks) - I was tempted to put KJ here, because A.) Just to see the commissioner's reaction and B.) He is close to deserving it. But in the end Penny averages nearly 7 more ppg that's enough to give him the nod.
The Reserves
C: Brad Daugherty (Grizzlies) - Daugherty has been a fixture at the All-Star game and is having another solid year. Shawn Bradley fought for this spot, but in the end just doesn't score enough to warrant a selection.
PF: Chris Webber (T'Wolves) - C-Webb may be a perpetual backup at the All-Star game, but that's whats gonna happen when you play the same position as the greatest player in the sim-universe.
SF: Latrell Spreewell (Clippers) - Spreewell is averaging 26.2 ppg an increase from last year that got him in the All-Star game. He has gotten the Clips currently sitting at the 3 seed.
SG: Michael Jordan (T'Wolves) - His Airness has gotten another year older and switched teams, but I don't see him giving up a spot at the All-Star game just yet.
PG: Kevin Johnson (Lakers) - Like I said I nearly named him the starter, he's leading the league in assists and is also nearly scoring 20 points per game.
The Wildcards
SF Reggie Miller (Mavericks) - If he would have stayed a SG in the East he probably would have started. Now after a trade out West and a position change he barely makes the team.
SF Cedric Ceballos (Warriors) - The Warriors get their 3rd All-Star (they don't get called the big 3 for nothing). Ceballos is having another great year putting up 21/9 from the SF position.
I'll take Dennis Scott to take home the 3 point title, and Isiah Rider gets his first dunk contest title.
