Future Power Rankings
#1 Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves earn the top spot here and it’s no surprise. The Wolves just a year after earning 2 straight #1 overall picks have the brightest outlook of any team. They arguably have two legitmate superstars with Grant Hill and Chris Webber. In Webber, they have a bonified busket maker who sets camp in the low post. He’s also an above average rebounder at his position and not a bad passer. Grant Hill is the real wild card for this team. Good at everything great at nothing… yet. Hill demonstrates scoring ability, is a great playmaker, and can rebound very well for his position. Hill is a triple double threat on any give night. Next to those two, the Wolves have a 26 year old PG nicknamed ‘Robot’ for his cerebrial play (or his name). Pack is an elite defender good passer and is no liability on offense.
Top Players under 28 years old:
Chris Webber
Grant Hill
Robert Pack
#2 San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have quietly amassed an arsenal in San Antonio. GM Eazy should probably be a front runner in the controversial GMOY race. 2 seasons ago, they traded a highly overpaid Danny Manning for Glenn Robinson, who’s turning out to be better than his predacesor. This year, they selected enigmatic PF Rasheed Wallace to help form one of the best front courts the league has seen to date. Throw in lunch pail Center Dale Davis and their ability to sign a max next season and this team is going to be a nucience for many years to come.
Top players under 28 years old:
Dale Davis
Rasheed Wallace
Glenn Robinson
#3
Milwaukee Bucks
Although the Bucks don’t have a bonafied young superstar ont their roster, they make up for it in sheer numbers. The Bucks have thrown together a lot of talent after 2 underwhelming seasons. So much so that they’ll be able to play Swiss Army Knife, Jalen Rose off the bench to terrorize teams. Throw in defensive stand out point guard Terrell Brandon, the balanced scoring of Michael Finley, defensive aggrivator Rick Fox and deceptily good Brian Grant and this team may be able to seize control of a weak Central division for years to come.
Top Players under 28 years old:
Terrell Brandon
Michael Finley
Jalen Rose
Brian Grant
Rick Fox
#4 Boston Celtics
The Celtics are a finely tuned machine that keeps on running. There are some in the league who think the Celtics will start to struggle to be contenders once the explosive Mitch Richmond starts to age. Unfortunately, that’s simply not true. Once Zo starts getting paid his worth, the Celtics have plenty of chips to move around and can just slide players on rookie deals in. They obviously have all world defensive center Alonzo mourning, but for the Celtics, the devil is in the details. The Celtics have guys like Kukoc and Marshall whow il probably never demand max contracts. Prudent spending along with wise drafting has the Celtics earns them the #4 spot in the future power rankings.
Top Players under 28 years old:
Alonzo Mourning
Toni Kukoc
Bimbo Coles
Donyell Marshall
#5
Orlando Magic
The Magic got incredibly lucky grabbing 2 of the top 3 picks in last year’s draft, and they cashed in on their luck by grabbing two legit talents back to back. In Jason Kidd, the Magic get a point guard who isn’t a great scorer, can do pretty much everything else at an elite level. Kidd is the backbone to this team and does all of the little things great. Eddie Jones was thought of to be solid player in the draft. The Magic took a chance on him and he quickly has paid them back by showing he can be a future star in this league one day. One of the few 2 way players at the SG position, Jones is primed to be a perrenial All Star. The reason the Magic aren’t much higher is because they traded their (what turned out to be) top 10 pick for Robert Wedan and took on a ton of salary with Benjamin and Miller.
