(GM Bow Bill walks up to the table where there are 5 seats and sits in the middle. He has a stern, cold look on his face: business only. He looks at his notes, looks up at the press and begins)
GM Bow Bill: Thank you all for attending this year's Press Conference. I'm not gonna give you any of the BS I normally do about how great we look and how excited we are. This season is all business.
GM Bow Bill: We were knocked out last year in a game 7 on our own home court to the Los Angeles Lakers. Congratulations to those men for their success. Last season as a whole was disgusting to me. We lost the Pacific division and the #2 seed on our own home court vs the Raptors with a 1 point loss on the second to last day of the season. Then we lose in round 2 to a 7 seed again on our own home court. That has set the attitude for this season: No Excuses. Just Win. We've had 4 years of being a "young team with plenty of time." That's over now. We had the MVP and DPOY and couldn't make it to the Western Conference Finals. That's unacceptable and completely on me.
GM Bow Bill: This offseason, we decided to make a winner. We didn't care about the luxury tax and tried to accumulate as much talent as we could possibly slam onto one court. We re-signed Shawn Kemp after a long conversation about the future of this team. We agreed to pay him a supermax, and he helped bring in Glen Rice. I felt he was on board with the "win over everything" plan. Judging by how he looks in practice so far, I think he's proven he wants this. If he was scary before, watch out now. But ratings and practice mean nothing. He needs to win on the court and he knows that. Next we set our sights on making sure our other Supermax stayed on task. Well, he did, improving in everything we asked him to: inside and especially defense. Sam Cassell unfortunately was not on the same page as he focused all his time on scoring inside as opposed to playing defense. That is unacceptable to this team and we have dealt with him. We then set our sights on getting one more star. We thought about maxing some players, before deciding against it. Although we assumed Glen Rice would be receiving a supermax, we decided to bring him in nonetheless. We threw a max at him and talked to him the win over everything motto. He's bought in and should be a great help this year. We signed Kevin Duckworth, Reggie Theus, and Jeff Malone to help our offense and then signed David Wingate, Doc Rivers, and Les Jepsen to help our defense.
GM Bow Bill: Our goals for this season are simple: win the championship and win the Pacific. Anything less than a championship will be a failure.
GM Bow Bill: And now we will open the floor to questions. Come on, guys. (Shawn Kemp, Dennis Scott, and Glen Rice walk out and sit down, leaving one empty seat.) Unfortunately, Sam Cassell will not be joining us as he will be spending all his time with our trainer we hired with our hard earned money to improve his defense.
GM Bow Bill: So we have Shawn, Dennis, Glen, and I here to answer your questions. Fire away.

Hello, Johnny Junior from The Washington Post here. You've acquired three great scorers, but there's only one ball to go around. With that being said, I have three questions: For Glen, how motivated are you to shed the "chucking ballhog" reputation you gained in Phoenix? For Shawn & Dennis, how confident are you in your ability to coexist with Glen? And for GM Bow Bill, are you sure Cassell should be off working on his defense rather than his facilitating skills?

Do you think you deserve GMOY consideration if you sweep the West over the likes of Dallas, Rockets, and others? Should luck be factored into being a GMOY candidate?

Glen Rice: Last season was the craziest I've ever been a part of. We were 1 game away from the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the eventual Eastern Conference champions. I felt for sure we would get the band back together and make one more run. Then all of a sudden, I'm traded to Phoenix, then almost vetoed, then traded finally. We were supposed to be contenders, but I never really knew my role. Hakeem immediately got hurt, then came back then got traded. But I've proven before I can score in bunches and efficiently. I have no doubt management here will find a way come playoff time to have all of us clicking.
Shawn Kemp: I am really excited to play with Glen. If people wanna throw their team at me, better bring an umbrella (ella eh eh) cause D3 and Glen will be raining it in from 3. If you try to defend the 3, I'm gonna burn you down low. You try to match up with us one on one, good luck.
Dennis Scott: With Glen and I, we will always have one of us on the floor. It'll be interesting if all 4 of us play at once, but I'm confident we'll figure it out come playoff time. But if we have one of us on at all times, that's gonna be tough for a defense to stop.
GM Bow Bill: Thanks for the question. We saw last year Sam's lack of facilitating didn't really hurt our offense. His job isn't very hard. Score or throw it around to one of the other 3 and go to work. But this conference runs through Penny Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Robert Pack, Pooh Richardson, Brian Shaw. He better be able to hold his own on D or they're gonna be getting our bigs in foul trouble.

GM Bow Bill: I don't like commenting on GMOY*, but if we can find a way to have 4 great scorers coexist and have the best offense in the league and scoring efficiently, why not? Add in the fact that these guys are all young. Show me another contender with its top 4 guys 27 or younger. Now there are some who have done more this offseason perhaps who maybe deserve it more. But if all goes well, why not?

Glen, what do you think you'll bring to the team? Dennis Scott is a great small forward...are you going to try to move to the shooting guard position?

Hi BillBow Baggins, my question is for you. There has been a recent uproar about the progressions of players around the league and how individual training sessions are to blame for their inflamed growth. However, despite being trained a couple times, Shawn wore two blue patches on his jersey the last few seasons. However, through team training and workouts, he was upgraded to two purple patches by the assistant coaches Mr. Comp and Mr. Uter. Do you feel that individual training sessions played a big part in Shawn's miraculous jump this past training camp?

Nick Melon; Charlotte Observer: Hey Bow Bill. Thank you for taking my question in advance. With the dominance of Shawn Kemp and reigning MVP and defensive player of the year awards, do you think he will be enough in the paint for the Warriors or are you still searching for another big man, given what your cap situation is to allow Kemp to guard both the center and power forward on most possessions this season?

John Denver; Post: What say you to the rumors Shawn Kemp is taking illicit drugs to fuel his simply overpowering of the rest of the league's big men? Also, wouldn't losing in the finals to what some are calling a superteam out East still be a successful season?

Kemp is a monster and according to his latest TC victory that doesn't seem to be stopping soon. Do you see his contract as the biggest bargain in the league?

Sports Guy Bill Simmons here, will there be such a thing called defense this year in Golden State or will the goal be to outscore your opponents on any given night? Oh and Zo, Kukoc, Bimbo, and Coleman say hi and if you want to make it the 28 and under club Tim says hi, and if you want to make it the 29 and under club Mitch says hi. That is all.

How much does having the versatility of two elite wing scorers who can play both sg and sf help your team? Which of them do you see starting at sg and which at sf?

Your team has very little depth but amazing talent at the top of the depth chart. How do you plan to balance your lopsided roster?

Glen, what do you think you'll bring to the team? Dennis Scott is a great small forward...are you going to try to move to the shooting guard position? Glen Rice: I'll bring that extra efficient scoring that boosts this team from a great offense, to all-time/unstoppable. I am prepared to move to the shooting guard if need be. I believe that is the plan as of now.

Shawn has become who he has become due to his hard work in the offseason, not to the trainers we've hired to help him. Additionally, he has been hired one trainer in inside and one in post D, not both in inside as some claim. Glad we can clear this up.

GM Bow Bill: Kemp is the best defender in the NBA in our opinion. He will lock down his guys. With Cassell, Rice, Scott, and Kemp, all we have to do is outscore the opponent 1-4 more than the center outscores us. I'll take us in that battle every time. And even if you wanna go down low to your center, don't forget about the DPOY standing around down there.

These drug accusations are absurd and we each vehemently deny it. As to the second part of your question, that team will be around for a while. And we've got the MVP and DPOY along with 3 great up and coming young stars. Why should we accept defeat to them. Championship or bust.

That's tough. The guys like Zo and Shaq on rookie contracts make it tough. Kemp is certainly worth his contract, but it does make it more difficult to put talent around him. But being the best player in the game, he'd get paid much more. I think outside of rookie contracts, he is the biggest bargain, but with rookie contracts, that's tough.

(The room is filled with light laughter at the statement. It is followed by silence. In the room next door, Sam Cassell is working with the training coach. In the silence, the room is faintly able to hear Sam ask "Defense? What is defense?") GM Bow Bill: (whispering with his face in his palm: "Dammit Sam." He shakes his head.) With Shawn Kemp down low, we should always have a formidable defense. But, our identity will most likely be on offense. We have 4 great scorers. We can put up 120 a night I think. So all we have to do is allow 119.
Shawn Kemp: Sup
Dennis Scott: Sup
Glen Rice: Sup

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk GM Bow Bill: It will be tough at first, but we hope to have our gameplan set by playoff time. And it should be a matchup nightmare in the playoffs as you can't key in on anyone. We will be looking through our cash soon to see if we can help Glen's athleticism as he seems better suited to play the 2.

Your team has very little depth but amazing talent at the top of the depth chart. How do you plan to balance your lopsided roster? GM Bow Bill: We have underrated depth. Doc Rivers is a solid backup 1/2. Duckworth should be a solid center. And with our 1-4, we shouldn't have many games come down to the bench. We plan on outscoring teams from the start and stepping on their throats before they get a chance to breathe.
